REMBO interviews Thomas Münstermann,
Manager of the Process Safety Department
at REMBE® GMBH SAFETY + CONTROL, Germany
REMBO: Shall I use a rupture disc
or a pressure relief valve?
Thomas: It is better to use both as a
combination device.
1. A rupture disc protects the PRV from sticking and corrossion, reduces the costs of a valve and the maintenance.
2. In case of overpressure the rupture disc bursts and protects the system.
3. PRV re-seats after relieving of excessive pressure.
REMBO: But a combination of both, disc and valve, is expensive, isn’t it?
Thomas: Not really! Do not forget the immense costs for maintaining the valve regularly which produces labor costs and process downtime. With a disc in front of the valve your business is never down. The disc protects the valve and it does not require maintenance. You can run your process 24/7 all year round. Imagine how much money you earn thru this time!
